How to Apply Your Thermal Transfer Print at Home
What You’ll Need:
✔ Your thermal transfer print
✔ A cotton or polyester fabric item (t-shirt, hoodie, tote bag, etc.)
✔ A regular household iron (no steam)
✔ A hard, flat surface (avoid soft ironing boards)
✔ Parchment paper (baking paper) or a thin cotton cloth
✔ Scissors (if trimming the design)
Step-by-Step Application:
1. Prepare Your Workspace
•Choose a clean, hard surface (a wooden table works best).
•Preheat your iron to high heat (around 150-160°C / 300-320°F). Do not use steam!
2. Position the Design
•If needed, trim excess film around the design for a cleaner look.
•Place your fabric on the flat surface and smooth out any wrinkles.
•Position the print facing down onto the fabric (the design side should be in direct contact with the fabric).
3. Cover & Press
•Place parchment paper (or a thin cotton cloth) over the transfer to protect it.
•Firmly press the iron onto the design for 30-40 seconds in each area.
•Apply even pressure—don’t move the iron around!
4. Cool & Peel
•Allow the transfer to cool for about 30 seconds.
•Carefully peel off the backing slowly and evenly. If the design isn’t fully transferred, repeat the ironing step.
5. Final Fixation (Optional but recommended!)
•Place the parchment paper back on top of the design and iron again for 10-15 seconds to secure the print.
